DIY: Chalkboard Cheese Stone

When my dad called me and said he had a bunch
of slate tiles that he was giving away, I immediately thought
about painting one for a cheese stone! It's literally the easiest
DIY in town....pretty sure a 5 year old could own this one.

For the record:
I will never turn down a good cheese plate, delicious bread
and/or crackers and some snacks to go along with it.
I know you all wanted to know that desperately!

To get started...

What you will need: slate tile of your choice, chalkboard paint, foam brush

Make sure you lay some newspaper or any kind of paper down before you get your paint on.
Just squeeze about a silver dollar size worth of paint on your stone and start brushing away!
Add more paint as needed. Do one coat and then let dry. Once it has completely dried,
apply a second coat for maximum coverage.

Writing on the uneven slate can be hard
(especially for those who write like child...I may or may not be talking about myself).
Just have a damp paper towel around in case you need to re-write
anything. The chalk will wipe right off.

This is the most fantastic idea. Thanks so much, I'll definitely be making use of this. Dad's are the best, aren't they.

Love from South Africa

What a wonderful idea! What magic it would perform for the hostess when unexpected guests pop over. I do think that I will be adding this to my “to do list”. I need all the “hostessing” help I can get. :)

Is the paint food safe when it dries? Will any brand of chalkboard paint work?
